St Patricks Day Road Safety Message

Road Alert, Mar. 16th 2026
Road Safety Message: Slow down, stay alert and make safe travel choices this St Patricks Day

With parades, events and celebrations taking place this St Patrick's Day, we're reminding everyone to take extra care on the roads.

Please remember:

Plan Your Journey

Arrange a lift, book a taxi, or use public transport if you're drinking.

Never Ever Drive Under the Influence

Drink and drug driving remain among the leading causes of death and serious injury on Irish roads. Make the safe choice — don't get behind the wheel.

Look Out for Pedestrians

Parades and celebrations mean more people on the streets. Drive slowly and stay alert.

Put the Phone Down

Distractions cause accidents. Keep your attention on the road.

Be Visible

If you're walking or cycling, wear something bright and use lights where possible.

Get Home Safely

Look after friends and loved ones, and make sure everyone has a safe way home.

An Garda Síochána have been carrying out an enhanced roads policing enforcement campaign over the Bank Holiday weekend which started on Thursday 12 March 2026 and will continue to be in operation until 7am on Wednesday 18 March 2026.

The RSA, in partnership with Applegreen, to help fight driver fatigue, will also be offering free coffee to drivers at participating service stations from 2pm to 8pm on Wednesday, 18 March. Motorists simply need to mention "RSA" at the till to avail of the offer.

Wishing you a safe and happy St Patrick's Day — let's all play our part in keeping our community safe and making this St. Patrick's Day one to remember for all the right reasons.
